We are delighted to be working with ACCESS in Glasgow to develop and deliver a Management Development Programme for 60 of its managers across the business. The programme is a 3 day workshop series with one month between each one. Individual development is encouraged through pre-workshop activities and the delivery of personal actions between each workshop. At the end of the programme each manager delivers a presentation to the senior management team on the value of the programme to them and the business which is followed by round table discussion around the relevant topics.
This programme demonstrates the commitment ACCESS has to the development of its managers and emphasises best practice across the business to ensure optimal service and future success.

The COSLA Excellence Awards Ceremony on the 5th March was a fantastic evening. Everyone was dressed in their finery and on their best behaviour! Following dinner the tension mounted as the finalists in each category were introduced and the winners announced. We were in the last category to be presented by which time we were chewing on our napkins! When we heard we had not received the gold award we consoled ourselves with the great achievement of silver then we heard the project being announced from the podium as the winner of the prestigious Delivering Excellence Award sponsored by the Scottish Government. It was a fantastic surprise for us all and EPC were delighted to share in the evening and to be associated with such success. Many congratulations to everyone involved.

In the current financially turbulent climate it can be difficult to justify expenditure on staff development. However by not investing in staff we run the risk of a disengaged and de-motivated team which is less likely to be equipped to help us through the challenges our organisations face. Our Management Development Programme has been developed to address both these issues by providing a comprehensive action based programme at an attractive price. Designed to bring real benefits directly to the business through up-skilled, capable and motivated managers.
Consider these questions:
Would you like to develop your own management skills?
Are there managers in your organisation who you feel would benefit from some formal training in managing others?
Are you planning to promote staff into their first management role?
Have recent budget cuts meant that internal management development training has been put on hold?
Would you like to meet with like minded managers and share experiences and knowledge?
If you have answered yes to any of the above questions then the Management Development Programme from Enhance People Consultants could be what you are looking for.
Through our extensive work with clients in the public and private sector we have developed an action based, delegate centred programme of workshops, coupled with one to one coaching to support managers in their role and deliver positive benefits into the business.

Thursday 16th February 08.00- Motivating Staff in Difficult Times - Communicate to Gain Commitment
In today’s difficult economic climate it can be hard remain upbeat and keep ourselves motivated. Even harder to keep our staff upbeat and committed.
Whilst orders may be constant, our staff see employees elsewhere being made redundant and feel unsettled. Where work is slowing up, anxiety levels are even higher.
Yet the people in our business are the most valuable asset we have. Their value does not change with stock market fluctuations. Their skill levels don’t go up and down like the price of a barrel of oil. More importantly, there is a direct link between their motivation and effective use of their skills and the success of your business.
As part of a series of special workshops organized by Business Gateway West Lothian to support local businesses during the economic downturn, this one-hour workshop will focus on Communicating to Gain Commitment, particularly during these challenging times.
The workshop takes place at The Enterprise Centre in Livingston. Participants should arrive at 8.00 am for breakfast. The workshop itself will commence at 08.30 am.
To book your place on this free workshop phone Michelle Herron on 07900 228170 or email michelle@enhancepeople.co.uk.

In conjunction with the Project Manager from Scottish Borders Council, Michelle co-presented to the COSLA Excellence Award panel on the whole range of activities the RMTD project has delivered during the last three and a half years. It is now up to the panel to decide who will take away the coveted prize of a gold award. A guaranteed silver will be made to the RMTD project which is a significant achievement in these highly competitive awards and one that EPC is proud to be associated with.

The team at Bevan House, a NHS Primary Care Trust in Bradford, wanted some time away from the demands of their roles to have some fun, get to know one another better and do some longer term planning for the practice. We put together a plan for a Time Out weekend where we created a combination of social, fun and business activities to ensure all the objectives were met. An overnight stay in a lovely hotel in the Lake District was a great opportunity for the team to have some social time together before the real work started the next day. Saturday started with a creative Create and Paint event run by Maximillion Events Ltd where the Bevan House team produced a fantastic piece of art work that depicted the development of their organisation and their aspirations for the future. Using the art work as a back drop we then moved on in the afternoon to facilitated group work looking at the development of services at Bevan House and the action needed to deliver these. As well as the art work to take back to the practice as a reminder of their hard work, we produced a report collating all the information from the facilitated sessions into an action focused document which Bevan House will use as the foundation to develop and deliver longer term strategic aims. The team returned to their roles with renewed vigour and enthusiasm to continue to deliver an excellent service to their client group.

At the start of October we delivered two lunch time seminars each to 20 members of staff for a global Medical Device Manufacture with an office in Scotland. The first seminar was on Communication looking at practical ways to improve our own role in the communication process to increase our effectiveness when we engage with others. The second seminar built upon the communication topic and looked at Providing Feedback. It is often challenging to provide developmental feedback to others and this seminar looked at the benefit effective feedback has on the individual and on the business as well as tools to make it less challenging. These seminars provided best practice approaches and knowledge in short 'bite size' amounts to encourage those who took part to make small and significant changes in their roles to develop their skills in these areas.

We are delighted to be runners up in this award given to the best new business (since 2005) run by women. The standard of the competition was very high and we had a great night at the awards dinner on the 29th May at the Deer Park Golf and Country Club. We did have to watch ourselves on the big screen as a short film was made of us for the event, which was a bit scary! Congratulations to the winners, Tumblezone Ltd.
On 9th April 2008 in conjunction with City Appointments we will be delivering the second in the series of Bite-size Management Breakfast Workshops, focusing on Motivation. Throughout November and December we delivered a series of Employment Law Workshops to over 50 Managers and Team Leaders at a Medical Device Manufacturer. These workshops helped the delegates understand relevant employment law legislation and its implementation within the workplace. The workshop was very well received and prompted a lot of discussion from all of the delegates. They are now better placed to apply the legislation within the workplace, creating a more effective and positive working environment.
November saw the delivery of ‘Managing and Developing Your Teams’ to a group of 20 managers in the Museum and Library sectors as the final part of a three part Leadership Management Programme which has included over 30 managers over a total of 5 months. Building on a platform of personal profiling and the development of a individual development plan each manager has taken part in the programme with a focus on their own objectives and team needs. The workshops were intensive, hard work, interactive and good fun with everyone learning a great deal from one another and the facilitator around the topic areas. The feedback from the programme has been excellent with everyone feeling that the programme met their personal objectives and that they would recommend the programme to others within their organisation. More importantly the Managers involved have already started to make positive changes within their organisations including: developing greater team cohesion and vision; tackling the issue of managing difficult personalities within their groups; and overhauling the management and running of meetings. The plan for the future is to maintain the momentum that has been created and develop opportunities for those who have taken part in the programme to come together periodically to discuss their progress and to continue to benefit from the support and networking opportunities of their peer group.
We were awarded third place in the above award on the 30th November which was fantastic. The competition was very strong with seven organisations short listed. Tumble Zone Ltd took first place and NAS Recruitment second place, both very successful organisations within West Lothian with considerable amounts of expertise in their field. It was great to be involved in an excellent award and to be so successful for first timers to the awards process.
We are delighted and proud to be short listed as one of the finalists for this award and look forward to hearing about our final placement at the award’s ceremony on the 30th November.
We are delighted that we have been nominated for the Best New Business award 2007. This category is for businesses that launched in 2004/2005 and have shown excellent performance based on customer satisfaction, financial management and good business practice.
The award ceremony is on the 30th November so watch this space to see how we get on!

Shepherd+ Wedderburn is a forward-looking people-centred UK law firm who understand the success that effective people management skills, coupled with technical excellence, bring to the business. There was a desire to provide those who are new to the role of Partner with appropriate opportunities to work with one another and gain expertise in a range of management skills. A co-facilitated workshop was developed with EPC working directly with the senior management team to deliver a series of management topics to the new Partner team. This coupled with one to one review meetings and Personal Profile Analysis provided an essential foundation to a process of continued support and development.
After detailed consultation with the project and its partners across East, Central and Border regions in Scotland we have developed a tailored leadership development programme to be delivered to over 30 key managers in the business. Building on Personal Profile Analysis for each delegate, individual learning plans are being put in place to ensure maximum benefit from a series of workshops delivered later in 2007. Linking our expertise with sector specialists the project has developed a programme of continuous learning and development to equip organisational managers with the skills they need to develop their individual organisations.
Congratulations to Helen who, in April 2007, became qualified to administer and use the MBTI tool. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire is used across the globe with over 3.5 million questionnaires completed every year. Based on over 50 years of research and development this excellent psychometric tool provides a useful starting point for individual feedback, self-exploration, team building and group discussion.
